Welcome to the Tap and Spile, Durham CAMRA Pub of the Year 2006
The Tap and Spile chain was created in 1986 by Camerons, to promote good quality cask ale throughout the country. Tap & Spile, Durham, was the third of over 60 pubs to be re-badged under the Tap & Spile name. Through many changes of ownership (Brent Walker, Pubmaster, Century Inns and now Enterprise Inns) the Tap has continued in the tradition of providing a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy a good pint and good company.
Tim and I took on the running of the Tap in April 2003. I had been involved with the pub since 1994 when I started as a barmaid, then went on to the relief management circuit. This enabled me to experience the Tap & Spile in all its forms. The city centre pub and the back street local. From Penrith to Grimsby, from Sheffield to Hexham, but there's no place like home! So when David said he wanted to move on to sunnier climes I jumped at the chance to settle down and put all that experience to good use.
With a constantly changing list of eight cask ales from a wide range of regional and micro-breweries, the Tap & Spile provides a warm, friendly welcome for cask ale drinkers from all walks of life. Having been awarded Cask Marque accreditation in October 2003 we can guarantee quality cask ale served correctly.
We have four rooms in which to enjoy your pint:
The Family Room also doubles as a meeting place and small function room and may be opened out and, with the Games Room, provide a space for larger meetings and celebrations, Buffets can be provided.Lesley Fyfe.
